Our 71st Season:
A Return to Our Home at Riverside Park
Dr. Wes King begins his second season conducting the FCCB at the Dudley Bandshell in Findlay’s Riverside Park. The band performed it’s 71st season in the park with over 100 members enrolled for the season.
Under the baton of Dr. Wes King, our 71st Season was a welcomed return to the traditions we have enjoyed for many years.
Thanks to the generous invitation of Fr. Adam Hertzfeld, we continued to rehearse at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, and with the Summer Concert Series now being managed by the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, our performances returned to the Dudley Bandshell at Riverside Park.
Three scheduled concerts included 6/15, 6/29, and 7/13.
We were to perform “The Sights and Sounds of Findlay, Ohio” on 6/15, but a bout of intense heat caused the concert to be cancelled.
The band performed a “Salute to America!” on 6/29, which is very traditional. Our concert just prior to Independence Day is patriotic and salutes not just the country, but our military.
Leading us in the Star Spangled Banner was 93-yr old Korean War Veteran and retired dentist, Dr. Vernon Huston. What an honor it was to accompany his beautiful baritone voice!
Dr. Vernon Huston, retired dentist, and 93-yr old Korean War veteran leads the band in singing the Star Spangled Banner. His beautiful baritone voice was certainly a great way to start off our concert on 6/29.
On 7/13, the band took the stage once more “For the Kids: A Children’s Concert.” This concert featured music from many movies including the theme from “The Incredibles,” selections from “Encanto,” and featured our trombone section with “Trombones on the Run.”
We attempted to make up the cancelled concert on 7/17 at 3:00pm on the steps at St. Michael Church but mother nature was not cooperative and due to rainy weather, we had to cancel.
We remain grateful to Mr. Chris Oaks of WFIN for serving as the voice of the band, and to our season sponsors for ensuring the ongoing strength of our band.
We look forward to our 72nd Season with rehearsal beginning in May 2023! See you at the Dudley Bandshell next summer!
